Solar Water Heating

Electricity generated by Solar PV is ideal for heating water via an immersion as it can be stored for later use.

How it works

To make the most of your solar PV system, you need both the system itself and a water cylinder with an immersion element. We offer two options for optimising this setup: an integrated SolarEdge unit controllable via the monitoring app, and an independent unit known as the Solar i-boost.

As your solar system generates power during the day, it's crucial to consume that power efficiently. Most properties are equipped with an immersion heater connected to the hot water cylinder.

Our 'smart hot water controller' seamlessly integrates with your existing equipment. You can configure it to utilise available solar power to heat the water, which is stored for later use.

Efficient Hot Water Year-Round

In summer, Jersey households with modest hot water needs can rely entirely on solar power. In the winter, your solar system can complement your existing boiler, or you can configure boost schedules using the app for increased flexibility.

When you're away for an extended period, you can easily deactivate the hot water function via the app. This allows you to collect credits for your generated units instead. Upon your return, simply reactivate the function from the airport or wherever you are.

Not to be confused with Solar Thermal

Solar Hot Water for PV is not to be confused with conventional Solar Thermal Technology. Solar Thermal can often be identified by extruded tubes on the roof. Its sole purpose is to heat water and therefore is not as flexible as solar PV which can be used for any electrical application.
